Brownen Lamond

State Vice President

I have a long history with the club/since birth.

Why?

My grandfather and his friends, put in a shilling each week to help sick children. With poor health as a child, my grandfather’s drive increased. My mother and father became involved, as they saw the wonderful work of the Childrens’ Hospital. Since my early years, I have seen three Childrens’ Hospitals in Victoria. Our states recent health crisis, has reinforced the importance of medical research, and appropriate resourcing throughout our state.

I am not sure when I joined UBC, possibly 18, as we didn’t have the Jets. Both my daughters joined as jets when they were born, I am not sure if they have signed up their children.

I am proud to be a life member and a recipient of the Meritorious Service Award. I have made many friends in our club, developed both personal and professional skills, realising that one person, or a small group can make a real difference in our world.

My interest:

  • My wonderful family
  • In my youth, sailing
  • A career in education, optimising student access to learning
  • Rotary. Service above self.

My very dear friend, once described me as a ‘serial volunteerer’. I believe a full life is a happy one, never board always looking for a solution.

Some thoughts in closing, when did you last ask a friend to join UBC? Have you considered becoming a director? Distance is no deterrent, as you can join meetings via zoom.
