On Sunday 20 March 2022 UBC held its first Open Garden Fete at Villa Verde Gardens in Greenvale. As the fete was a fundraiser for the Good Friday Appeal, it was a perfect opportunity to recreate an iconic moment from UBC’s history with the appeal.

Longtime supporter of UBC, the late Dame Elisabeth Murdoch, first appeared in the wheelbarrow, which is at the heart of the Peninsula Group’s Good Friday Appeal activities each year in their ‘Barrow Push’ from Sorrento to Safety Beach.

Dame Elisabeth’s granddaughter and chair of the Good Friday Appeal Penny Fowler shared the club’s enthusiasm to revisit this historic moment, and the Open Garden Fete was the chosen event.

Penny was joined by Good Friday Appeal Executive Director Rebecca Cowan and members of each of their families, making it a family event through and through.

We are also very grateful to the family of Villa Verde for opening their gardens for our fundraiser.
